The Saturday Group 40th Anniversary Show-Homage to MALANG

The Saturday Group members takes inspiration from Malang's works and interprets them in their own individual styles. Borrowing his favorite subjects, colors and style, members of the group explores the various possibilities that they can conjure while retaining their own artistic style.

VISUAL ARTS CATEGORY



CONTEST GUIDELINES:

1. The Faber-Castell Sining Award painting competition is open to all interested Filipino artists of all ages who have not held any solo exhibit.

2. The competition will start on June 15, 2008. The submission of entries will be on September 25 and 26, 2008 at:
UNIGIFTS - Roces Centre, Unit 3, 127 Don A. Roces Ave., Quezon City

3. The Official Entry Forms are available at the following venues:

• National Bookstore branches
(Quezon Avenue, Glorietta, SM North Edsa, SM Megamall)
• The entry forms may also be reproduced.
• Or may be downloaded from www.crownsupplymanila.com

4. The Ocial Entry Forms should be lled up completely and legibly. This should be submitted together with the artist’s 2”x2” ID picture.

5. The competition is open to all themes/subject matter. It may be figurative/representational or abstract/nonrepresentational.

6. All entries must measure 2’ x 3’. Orientation may be horizontal or vertical. Framing is optional. Painting material may be canvass, plywood or paper. All entries should bear provisions for hanging.

7. The medium to be used may be of the following: oil, acrylic and watercolour. It is not required to use Faber-Castell products.



8. Only works dated 2008 are accepted. All entries must be original and have not been exhibited or awarded by any award giving bodies.

9. The entries should be unsigned. Attach the name label at the back of the entry specifying the name of the artist, medium used, size and title of the painting.

10. Entries with incomplete requirements will not be accepted.

11. Winners will be awarded with the following:

Oil Category:
• First Prize P 50,000 cash prize and plaque
• Second Prize P 30,000 cash prize and plaque
• Third Prize P 20,000 cash prize and plaque
• 5 Honorable Mention Awardees P 5,000 cash prize and plaque each awardee

Water-based Category:
• First Prize P 30,000 cash prize and plaque
• 4 Honorable Mention Awardees P 4,000 cash prize and plaque each awardee

Aside from the cash prize, all winners will receive Faber-Castell products.


12. All entries will pass through a screening to be made by a panel of judges. All decisions of the judges SHALL BE FINAL and INCONTESTABLE.

13. The judging will be on October 1, 2008 and the Awarding Ceremony will be on October 15, 2008. The ocial venue will be announced later. Retrieval of artworks will also be announced at a later date.

14. All the winning entries will remain to be the property of the winners.

15. Crown Supply Corporation has the right to use the winning entries in any of Faber-Castell’s advertising and promotional programs.

JUAN LUNA: SELECTED PAINTINGS FROM THE BANK OF THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS COLLECTION AT AYALA MUSEUM


This exhibition showcases twenty-three paintings from the BPI Collection, including works from the estate of Grace Luna, wife of Andres Luna de San Pedro y Tavera, son of Juan Luna. On exhibit from 12 June to 31 August 2008 at the Third Floor Gallery of the Ayala Museum.


Juan Luna: Selected Paintings from the Bank of the Philippine Islands Collection is curated by Professor Ambeth R. Ocampo, Chairman of the National Historical Institute, who will soon be conferred the Officier in the Order of Arts and Letters by the Republic of France. BPI shares this collection with the public for the first time on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Bank of the Philippine Islands Foundation.


Juan Luna is best known for historic and historical paintings like the Spoliarium and Blood Compact. These works are seen as expressions of the coming of the age of the Filipino and the birth of the Philippines as nation in the late 19th century. The exhibition will focus on the man behind the paintings by highlighting Luna’s overlooked works as well as studies and small works that were not intended for public display but reveal his creative process.


The show will also include portrait paintings from the Ayala Museum collection, and select works from private collections. Additional support is provided by Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, Inc.




A gallery tour will be conducted by Professor Ambeth R. Ocampo on Saturday, 19 July 2008 at 11:00 am. Admission to the museum includes lecture.

July Activities at the Lopez Museum

The Lopez Memorial Museum would like to invite you to the following activities:

1. Artists In Conversation

Featuring artists Jonathan Olazo and Claro Ramirez. The conversation will dwell on Olazo's installation work "Healing Achilles" and the conservation and curatorial challenge involved in installing said work, among others. On June 28, Saturday, 2-4 pm. Fee is Php120.00

2. Painting Do's and Dont's: Lecture-Demo on Taking Care of Paintings

Lecture-demo will focus on anatomy of painting (oil or acrylic on canvas, paper or wood), common problems and causes and tips on conservation. To be given by Ms Maita Reyes, Conservation Consultant of Lopez Memorial Museum. On July 5, Saturday, 2-4pm. Fee is Php120.00.

3. The Multiple Contexts of the Calatagan Artefacts: Navigating a Maze of Meanings

Dr Grace Barretto-Tesoro of the UP Archaeological Studies Program will map out the biography of the objects from their acquisition in the past as commodities, grave goods, archaeological evidence and museum collection. In cooperation with Museum Foundation, Inc. On July 12, Saturday, 2-4 pm. Fee is Php50.oo, Museum Foundation members Php100.00 and non-members Php150.00.

Art in the Park 2008

Art in the Park features original paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures by promising art students and established visual artists.

Art after Dark is a relaxed evening affair featuring 6 interactive art spaces highlighting one-of-a-kind or specially selected pieces from different artists and art groups.

About Fete de la Musique

The Fete de la Musique, also known as World Music Day, is a festival promoting music which began in France, but has spread to Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Britain, China, Morocco, Pakistan, India, Philippines, and other countries. Completely different from a music festival, the Fete de la Musique is above all a free popular fete, open to any participant (amateur or professional mucians) who wants to perform in it. This music day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularize musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music.
